Four members of the Class of 1949 gathered in Duluth on August 27th including organizer Peter Staudohar, Thomas Annear and Kathleen (Hayes) Bianco. They had wonderful memories of the school and Kathleen remembered her wedding on July 27, 1957, being one of the last held in the school once the new Cathedral opened in the fall of that year.
The Class of 1967 held a reunion during the weekend of August 14-16th, 2009, in Duluth. This was the first time that a class has held an organized event at the school and it was a pleasure to welcome them back. The weekend was well planned with a variety of activities, including a class social, meals around town, a walk on the LakeWalk, Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary and a chance to enjoy activities in the Duluth community. Twenty classmates from around the country including the Midwest, Seattle, Denver, and China gathered in the school gym, some of whom hadn’t seen each other or been back in the school since graduating from 8th grade. The group toured the Cathedral to see the most recent renovations and then explored every floor of their alma mater. Each classroom had a special sign posting both the subject and the teacher (mostly Dominican Sisters) that taught the year their class was sitting in the desks. A beautiful dinner was catered in the school gym, followed by a trivia test. Prizes were awarded including HRS frisbees and sweatshirts. Here is a sample question from the test: What was installed at HRS during the 1963-64 school year? (see the answer at the end of this article). Their comments included “the building is in beautiful condition,” to “it smells just like it did when I was here,” to “wow, the library is amazing…what happened to the old furnace and the coal?”. Special thanks are shared with Dan Becker and Joe Kolar, who worked to plan a memorable weekend and coordinated the communications, Chris Welsh for being the official photographer, as well as all the alums who attended. The class was invited by one of its members to consider a gift to the school to be used for tuition assistance. As a group, they contributed $500 that will be used to help students who received a scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year. It was a great visit and fun to have welcome them all back!
Four members of the Class of 1968 joined in the Class of 1967 reunion held in Duluth in August. Ann (LaLiberte) Olson, Barb (Hoene) Dawson, Sue (Rudie) Carlness and Katie (MacLean) Cowles slipped back into their roles as underclassmen and wore their nametags complete with the designation, “7th grader.” They had fun sharing their memories during the events and they are exploring a reunion event for their class. Check back for more details or contact Ann LaLiberte Olson if you are interested in helping.
